Remarketing

What is Remarketing?

Remarketing is an advertising technique whereby you selectively display ads to people who have visited your website but not purchased from you or otherwise engaged with you by signing up for a newsletter etc.

The theory behind remarketing is that someone may find your site as a result of doing a search at an early stage in their online research, for example to find out your prices. They may then continue to do research by visiting your competitors’ sites and during that process may forget about your own business. What remarketing technology enables is the display of special ads to these people as they visit other sites on the internet. Those ads are not going to be on your competitors’ website(!) but they can appear on other sites in the advertising system’s networks.

An alternative method of remarketing is to create ads that specifically target people who have bought from you. One tactic you can exploit here is to offer existing customers a special discount that is only available to them to encourage repeat purchases. You can do this quite easily with the AdWords system using its remarketing capabilities.
